Choose according to what the work needs.
Bring an unfinished idea or something that interests you. Choose one approach and see what it changes. The full collection is organised around three situations: Ideas, when you need somewhere to begin; Practice, when an idea needs a form; and Change, when there is already something there and you need to reconsider it.
Each Way begins with WHEN, followed by an approach to try and a question about what changed.
One asks you to Make the first mark when a blank surface gives you nothing to respond to. Another suggests Make a rough version to discuss when several people are talking about a piece they are imagining differently. Later, Question the order asks you to rearrange material when you have stopped questioning what its sequence communicates. Choose according to what the work needs.
